Minimum Space Requirements

Mandatory Configuration Requirements

Spring System – Wall mounted openers require standard torsion spring systems. Reverse wound springs as found on low headroom (LHR) outside hookup configurations are not compatible. Extension springs and torquemaster are also not compatible.

Tube or Shaft – The shaft the torsion springs are mounted to can be a hollow tube or solid shaft, but must be a 1″ diameter. Wayne Dalton Torquemaster springs are not compatible.

Secured Spring Line – The hollow tube or solid shaft must be secure. Eliminate all side to side or up and down shifting of your torsion bar.

Balanced Door – The torsion springs should be installed and set correctly so the door is properly balanced. If the springs are not correct or wound with improper tension wall mount openers will not work correctly – a common error being 4-1 excessive force.

Max Door Size – Doors cannot exceed 180 sq ft, 18ft width or 14ft height.

Suggested Requirements

High Lift or Full Vertical Lift TrackJackshaft openers are best suited for high lift (HL), full vertical lift (FVL) and follow the roof pitch (FRP) track configurations. This is due to the natural downward acting force on the door compared to standard lift where the door rests flat when overhead. Standard lift doors lack a downward acting force, which can cause issues with cables coming off the drums.

Pusher Springs – Pushers are small spring loaded devices that mount to the back of the horizontal tracks. When the door is fully open these devices push against the top of the top door section, helping to create a downward acting force. They also mitigate the momentary jump as jackshaft openers start the down close cycle.

15″ Radius Track – A wider track radius allows for a smoother curve around the track radius. A 15″ track radius is preferred vs standard 12″ radius.

Ball Bearing Rollers – To assist with smooth operation, ensure you have nylon ball bearing rollers in working order.

Double Side Steel Doors – Non insulated and vinyl back insulated doors are prone to bending and bowing over time. Steel back reinforced doors are preferred, but not required.
