The thickness of this hinge is 14 gauge and is designed for most residential doors and some light duty commercial size doors. Hinges have a maximum thickness of  11 gauge with 18 gauge being the thinnest. Heavier gauge steel is used on heavier doors and high volume use doors for added durability.

The width of this hinge is 3″ so the interior stiles should be at least 3″ wide. The length of the hinge is 7 3/8″ and comes with pre-drilled pilot holes. Most of the time these holes will not line up with your existing door stile holes. You will need to start new holes or increase the diameter of the fasteners you use.

Hinge #1 refers to the placement of the hinge on the door. Number one hinges are installed on the bottom section of the garage door and on the middle (interior) stiles of each door panel. Lower number hinges are installed closer to the bottom of the door. Higher numbered hinges are installed toward the top of the door.
